I just came back from a camp called ‘Metamorphosis’ that was organized by Campus Crusade for Christ for NTU, NUS, SIM and SMU and 2 churches joined us too. I’m so excited to share with you my experiences at this camp…
The first memorable event is that I’m honored to be involved in the opening dance item. As most of u know it’s been my passion to dance, and for the first time when I perform, I felt that dancing can be a service to God and as we danced to the song ‘Tell the World’, I really hope to tell the world about the gospel of Christ! I’m really thankful for this opportunity, but I felt that the dance item could be better perfected because I made some mistakes… but I’m still so glad to be part of this!
The highlight was on the second day of the camp, where there’s ‘Project X’, which is Street Evangelism. I wasn’t really looking forward to this at first because I had fears and doubts abt how useful and effective street evangelism was all about. Thank God my group was assigned to go to NTU Halls 3 and 7, somewhere that I can feel ‘safe’ because I can expect to meet my peers, mostly foreigners who just came back for the new school term next year. I was partnered with my assistant group leader and she’s very good and I learnt a lot from her. We were given little booklets (in English and Chinese) to share Christ using the 4 spiritual laws and I was kinda scared because I had never even seen these booklets before and how am I supposed to explain using it? But luckily we could use a Da Vinci Code survey for us to help start a conversation with the people. Thank God that His spirit is leading me and as I shared, I gained confidence. Now I can truly understand wad it means that it is not by might, nor by power, but by the spirit. It was a great challenge for me when the first person I get to share with is from China and I had to use Chinese. I had great difficulty trying to read the booklet and I’m really thankful that the girl had patience to let me finish until the part where I can ask her whether she was ready to say the sinner’s prayer. She was very polite and told me that she wasn’t very ready yet, but I believe that the seed has been planted and that God has began a good work in her. I also shared my testimony with her. My partner encouraged me that I’ve really shared well, except that my Chinese isn’t very fluent. At that point in time, I was so glad that I can be used by the Lord to serve him, and in this incident, He also gently reminded me to brush up on my Chinese especially when I have 2 TCM modules for next semester. May all praises and glory be sang unto the Lord for the success in Street Evangelism! There are quite a no. who prayed to receive Christ (shortform is PRC..haha) and 2 of them were from my group. Most of the hostelites were not around, but God has also brought into my path a Buddhist guy, a China guy, a free-thinker, can’t remember the rest…. I witnessed my partner sharing with 2 Muslims who are very open and also responded that wad the bible verses say makes sense! It was really amazing to be able to see that most youths were open to Christianity and it was a great boost to my faith!
On every morning there is a morning message and at night there is a conference called free-living delivered by a pastor called Rich Miller. Topics like how to handle fear and anger and the topic on God’s Grace sends wonderful reminders to me of God’s faithfulness and many responded and were healed of the pains of anger and fears. Each of us could also choose a special package for the ‘Theological Equipping Discipleship’ (TED) and I chose the Topic on God’s Redemptive Plan – History Unfolds. The preacher is a staff of crusade and he covered some biblical events and showed me how the Bible is rather relevant to the society today. I could understand the bible better and read it with ‘new eyes’.
Generally, I feel that the camp is pretty similar to FCBC’s encounter weekends, only difference is that this is for youths and it always amaze me how God uses young people of my age or in twenties to be committed to serve God with God’s calling. Its also great chance to meet more Christian friends from different churches, courses and background all coming together as a body of Christ to worship the Lord. I feel that knowing them on campus is crucial because they are my peers who also have to juggle with studies and its good to encourage one another.
To sum up, I realised that crusade’s vision to see moments everywhere so that every student can know somebody who truly follows Jesus, is rather similar to FCBC’s mission to send, win, consolidate and disciple. The main theme of the camp is to be Rooted and Built Up. This is my 2nd time attending a camp organized by crusade and the vision I see generally is a passion for the loss and evangelism, pretty similar to FCBC’s G12 I feel… There’s really a need to send out more workers on the harvest field because the harvest is plentiful and workers are few. I believe that each of us can be spiritual multipliers and like wad Nira encouraged us during caroling that each of us can share the gospel. Lets continue to pray that more will come to know the Lord and most importantly accept Him as Lord and savior. Also pray that we can be willing to take up any responsibilities when God directs our paths according to His will and plans for us…
